Research & Design
Initial Concept
In fall of 2025, I started looking for texture trial packs that I could use to assess dysphagia while working in home health. Realizing I couldn't find the items I wanted, I started researching what it would take to produce the item myself. After pairing up with my local Small Business Development Center (SBDC), I had a plan for developing my own line of dysphagia trial packs.
Clinician Interview
Over the last 6 months, I have interviewed over 30 practicing clinicians to determine the need for a dysphagia trial product. I quickly found that the the need goes beyond evaluations. Other SLPs felt the product would be useful in treatment and for patient education in diet levels.
Identifying Barriers
Through my interviews, I also found that cost was going to be the biggest barrier. Accessibility has always been my goal and I have strived to find a way to produce this item in a way that allows clinicians to use the item in their everyday practice.
